I love exercise.
Absolutely LOVE it.
I love the vibration of my watch on my wrist letting me know that my heartbeat has gone above 168bpm when I'm running on the threadmill.
I love the ache in my quads and my biceps after lifting.
I love the intensity of a sparring session, and feeling like I'm at my absolute limit.
Growing up, I remember hearing the argument that "I'm not fat, I'm big boned" and this always made a certain type of sense to me. As someone who has broad shoulders and wide hips, I was never going to be able to achieve the coveted Heroin Chick look of the nineties.
Am I a calorie counting expert? No.
Do I have any formal education in weight loss or nutrition? Also no.
But what I do have is over a decade of experience calorie counting incorrectly, abandoning calorie counting, and gaining all the weight I managed to lose back.
I could never run for any significant distance, even as a child.
I came last every single sports day, and was frequently awarded the Best Sportsmanship medal for my apathy. I was not good at physical exercise, but I was good at other things so that was OK.
If you are living in a larger body whilst simultaneously living on the internet, you may have come across a growing movement that considers the terms "Obesity" and "Over-Weight" offensive. There's a growing movement online attempting to destigmatise the word Fat, whilst denigrating the O-words.
The argument you may hear on TikTok is that "Fat is a Neutral Term" like tall or short, but words like "obesity" are soaked in moral judgement.
Are they though?
Hi there!
Welcome! I'm super excited to have you here. Now you may be asking yourself, why on earth would you listen to someone who is literally obese about health? And if you are, it's a fantastic question. Is this another online medium for Health at Every Size?
